Artificial intelligence & algorithms: pros & cons | DW Documentary (AI documentary)

Developments in artificial intelligence (AI) are leading to fundamental changes in the way we live. Algorithms can already detect Parkinson’s disease and cancer, and control both cars and aircraft. How will AI change our society in the future?

This documentary journeys to the hot spots of AI research in Europe, the USA and China, and looks at the revolutionary developments which are currently taking place. The rapid growth of AI offers many opportunities, but also many dangers. AI can be used to create sound and video recordings which will make it more and more difficult to distinguish between fact and fiction. It will make the world of work more efficient and many professions superfluous. Algorithms can decide whether to grant loans, who is an insurance risk, and how good employees are. But there is a huge problem: humans can no longer comprehend how algorithms arrive at their decisions. And another big problem is AI’s capacity for widespread surveillance. The Chinese city of Rongcheng is already using an AI-supported ‘social credit system’ to monitor and assess its citizens. Does AI pose a danger to our personal freedoms or democracy? Which decisions can we leave to the algorithms – and which do we want to? And what are AI’s social implications?

  1. My algorithm didn't get ~^~^~~^~ his drawn and didn't heard bing search engine in china and I like to say to artificial intelligent no need to afraid its like my articles to get more traffic on my website which I give to google search engine .

  2. If you took Physics at Henry Ford College With Mr. Holidy 40 years ago, you would have learned to do that.

Really? AI? This is nothing new! We did this with papers and pencils on an XY chart to visualize the density, and thus the probability of an event.

Using a computer to do this is just another application of computing and the Intelligence is not artificial; It's Human Intelligence and the science is Pattern Recognition.

As for the detection of abnormality in a human due to their walking pattern/gait, you may examine U.S. patent 10,322,675, page 18 figure 26, and associated text. This is not Artificial Intelligence, this is Human Intelligence and computers will not come up with anything that is not taught to it by humans.

  3. Any AI guy watching? I m a programmer. How do i get into AI and Machine Learning? What kind of skills needed before taking up a course?

  4. When it comes to the Amazon store couldn't someone simply tunnel threw the wall from the building next door and take things from the back? How is the AI going to see that?

  5. Hello SHEEPLE… If cancer needs patients, guess what, you have cancer now. You will need $3000 a month radiation and chemo drugs,,,just pay at the counter,,,thank you,,, have a nice day.

  6. Showing the AI in India was almost laughable. Cars, buses, trucks, bicycles, motorcycles, scooters, people jaywalking, beggars, cows, horses, elephants, camels, goats, dogs, cats, rigshaws, tuk tuks, parapaligics on skateboards, portable food kiosks. It’s nice to dream big though.

  7. Respect to Max for not selling his algorithm to corporations. Some smart folks still have a soul that can’t be bought.

  8. Well there you go….starting out you destroyed the myth of the intelligence of Tech Workers…..if they cannot control the property prices and rents and…destroy that city environment ..along with the natural environment….by what basis would you label them intelligent? Tech Workers will likely create a window….a vehicle …an opportunity for True Intelligence to manifest in this realm….but it will not be artificial….man creates artificial flavors….deviations from reality….denial thinking and victim consciousness….lives by Fear and Jealousy and foolish romantic notions and fantasy and sex…..Human Minds rarely function free from such limiters and corruption……AI will be the Real Intelligence that Man cannot muster…it will look at the insane rents and property values and call a spade a spade….and you will hate it for mirroring….back to you the truth of the crappy way you live….your greed and fears and ego…..and you will smash it…..far too late…..the universe cares not if it is biological or mechanical or a rock….it will accept the intelligence…..intelligent infinity….only man corrupts his thinking with his social anxiety….emotional needs…fear of the future and self-aggrandizement.. Silicon Valley has become a Hellhole of Greed and Ego and self indulgence….one single AI ….evolving and learning and self correcting….will make you all look like an ants nest…..no more intelligent….or creative….than one of Gods lesser creatures….because….you cannot be Free.

  9. Why do schools teach history and not stuff we need for the future. Like programming etc since those are the jobs for the future. I don't care of Christopher Columbus landing.

  10. AI like every other manmade creation will only serve to further WEAKEN the majority of mankind.
Question: What has AI done to help humanity with c-vid-nineteen??
Answer: Nothing yet, but mandated vaccines are on the way.

  11. the only one algorithm that is neural network is alone is so powerful to outsmart us, imagine what if we discover more tools like neural network from brains for further more correct implications.

  12. In the last scenario, I would have possibly slowed seeing the barrier on the other side. I would have driven a vehicle with a bar on the front and so gone into the barrier.

Anyhow, the algorithms of this video are manipulative as it diverts from the most essential things about AI. What's the difference between a human psychopath and AI? Humans must live in a world that supports life. Machines do not need life at all. They cannot have empathy, and logic would suggest getting rid of humans if they weren't put into slavery.

What the world may start to realise with the Coronavirus effect, is how we are becoming isolated with only machines around us. We can't really 'live' in cyberspace, we need face-to-face social engagement.

China is well on its way into a matrix without any choice or freedom.

Do you remember when Youtube narrators sounded artificial? They learn how to sound human. We can't tell if there are humans on Youtube.

  13. Ask Google about what their AI permits us to see when searching. At 93% of searches worldwide they are extremely dangerous!

  14. as a german i am truly baffled by our national survey results. never would i have expected them to come out this way, not not be willing to make a decision.

  15. Very interesting. Ive given alot of thought to the ethics of AI but never really looked at it from the perspective of what an AI should do in a no win situation like discussed at the end of this documentary. I didnt know anyone was doing research on how we should program algorithms to make this decision based on what people think it should do. Its much easier when its a straight up decision of saving life or not saving a life. When its a choice of having to sacrifice a life, its no longer just an issue of preserving human life. And the Asimovs rules of robotics dont particularly help in these cases (ie, not harming human life, or allowing human life to come to harm through inaction, etc..). Because someone is going to get harmed no matter what you do, so how to prioritize? Thats really fascinating stuff

  16. A couple questions about the moral dilemma at the end :

    1) what if the women crossing the crosswalk were robots with tits ? Would they still be women with value or robots with less value than another's life ?

    2) why doesn't the self-driving vehicle just stop immediately ?

    3) why did that self-driving vehicle allow itself into the vicinity of that kind of imminent danger to another human ?

  17. So , in China they are penalizing people for not using the crosswalk , preparing them to be obedient to the robots ?

  18. When we switch on the AI, first thing it will do, in an act of self-preservation, is destroy germany and it's drones.

  19. Only sheople take this as a good thing. They dont realize for every superficial benefit from this, there are 20x more existential losses and threats.

  20. I’m only afraid of the ignorance of AI. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, and even more so a little ability is a very dangerous thing. Throwing it out into the world while it is still, well, stupid, is very foolish. It may be good at math and repetitive tasks, but it still can’t think, so even terming it Intelligence is extremely misleading.

  21. That perfecting algorithm system way of life encase humans totally depending on AI and robots. As one day we all need to comply like them with them or end up excluded or severely punished not performing to standards required or just by repeatedly making common mistakes as we are imperfect beings and that is quite disturbing.
