Wiki: Athena or Athene, often given the epithet Pallas, is an ancient Greek goddess associated with wisdom, handicraft, and warfare, who was later syncretized with the Roman goddess Minerva. Athena was regarded as the patron and protectress of various cities across Greece, particularly the city of Athens, from which she most likely received her name. She is usually shown in art wearing a helmet and holding a spear. Her major symbols include owls, olive trees, snakes, and the Gorgoneion.

I always feel Athena is she really goddess of Wisdom i kinda doubt that.

  7. Medusas transformation is not to be considered a punishment. It was meant to be a from of protection. Medusa had already devoted her life to Athena and had no interest in hedonistic interactions. Therefore Athena turned her and her sisters into gorgons so that they would not have to suffer the uncontrolled lust of men ever again. Finally after her death Athena placed the head of her most loyal priestess on her shield so she could protect the goddess as she once protected Medusa.
