Budget PC build – HP ProDesk 600 G1 SFF. Squeezing in 3 hard drives and an SSD.

After picking up a cheap HP ProDesk 600 G1 SFF PC, it’s time to cram it full of stuff. Specifically 3 hard drives, an SSD, and a decent video card. The only catch is that we have to modify the case a little.

This video was edited afterwards using this computer and everything works like a charm.

Some rough prices (in AUD):

ProDesk with i5 4670 and 8gb ram $200
GTX1050 $100
WD 10TB $250
4TB, 5TB, and SSD $350
Not bad for 19TB of storage and a pretty capable machine.

  1. Hi there, for some reason I can't get more then 2 HDD's working on this machine. In the bios it just shows 2 drives even though I disconnected the dvd drive and plugged those cables into the 3rd hdd. In disk management i can see the 3rd disk but it's offline and won't go online. Am i missing anything into bios options to get 3 hdds working?

  2. So after a couple of months, can you comment on power draw, idle noise&temp and whether it would be acceptable to have as always on idle pc? Thinking of running nextcloud and using as a docker host in combo with home media streaming

  3. That's a small form factor?! I have a DOS machine with an AWE64 Gold and a modern gaming rig that, combined, are smaller than that!

  4. I have one of these laying around. I stuck a spare 240GB SSD and am waiting on 3 x 4GB DDR3-1600 sticks to bring the max RAM up to 16GB. I tested a Xeon e3-1271 v3 in it and works fine and intend on maybe putting a low profile GTX 1650 in as well. Any idea on how to lock the quadcore turbo as "fixed" so it always runs at the max quadcore turbo speed? I tried Intel XTU and Throttlestop but cannot seem to get it to set the CPU.

  5. Hp ProDesk 600 G1— CPU: intel pentium g3220 GPU: GTX 1050 RAM: 8GB MEMORY: PNY 120GB SSD is that good? What fps csgo

  6. Whats the motherboard on this? I'm wondering if I can screw it into a different case like a thermaltake super cheap one.

  7. Just bought this PC and I'm going to use it as a Plex Media Server and wanted to do the same build with the Storage. Amazing, thank you!

  8. Glad to know this build is working so well! I have the exact same HP on the way 🙂 planning on making similar upgrades.

  9. I took out an 8tb wd from its external casing and put it on my prodesk 600 g1. I didn't modify or covered the pin and its working perfectly.
